Masterpieces
At the heart of every masterpiece lies the presence of those who came before us. Modern Haitian artists continue to work in conversation with generations that opened paths through painting, sculpture, abstraction, spirituality, social observation, and historical reflection.
The legacy includes Philomé Obin, Bernard Séjourné, Hector Hyppolite, Tiga, Rose-Marie Desruisseaux, Raymond Olivier, Préfète Duffaut, Wilson Bigaud, Stivenson Magloire, Dieudonné Cédor, Gesner Armand, Hervé Télémaque, Ludovic Booz, and many others whose work widened the visual language of Haïti.
Haitian art carries African, Caribbean, Indigenous, and European encounters without becoming reducible to any one of them. Daily life, Vodou, memory, politics, landscape, humor, beauty, fracture, and survival repeatedly return to the canvas in different forms. The purpose of this page is not to freeze the masters into a museum of names, but to keep the conversation visible for the artists who follow.
